03 / Technology

Independent counsel.
Supported by thoughtful technology.

NYAY & CO.'s relationship with Legum Lex brings together professional legal practice and a focus on better legal-service infrastructure.

NYAY & CO. provides legal advice and representation. Legum Lex is our technology partner, with a focus on tools for document organisation, matter coordination, and access to information.

The purpose of this relationship is to support the practical work around a legal matter. Professional judgment and responsibility for legal services remain with the engaged advocate.

04 / Engagement

A clear understanding
from the outset.

Before accepting a matter, we review its nature, check for conflicts of interest, and consider whether the engagement is appropriate.

Where we proceed, the scope of services, professional fees, and communication arrangements are agreed with the client.

An initial enquiry does not, by itself, establish an advocate–client relationship. Confidential documents should be shared only after an appropriate channel has been agreed.

Area of practice · Civil

Understanding rights. Addressing disputes.

Civil disputes often involve competing accounts, overlapping obligations, and documents that require close examination. Our approach begins with identifying the rights in question, the evidence available, and the remedies that may be relevant. From there, we consider the appropriate course in light of the client's circumstances and objectives.

Banking & Financial Disputes

  • District Courts, Chandigarh
  • District Courts, Mohali (SAS Nagar)
  • District Courts, Panchkula
  • Debt Recovery Tribunal, Chandigarh

Asked often

Which court will my civil case be heard in?
It depends on the value of the claim and where the cause of action arose or the property is situated. Most matters begin before the District Courts at Chandigarh, Mohali (SAS Nagar) or Panchkula, with appeals lying to the Punjab & Haryana High Court at Chandigarh.
How long does a civil suit take in the Tricity?
Timelines vary with complexity and court load. Commercial disputes above the specified value are routed through Commercial Courts, which follow tighter timelines. We give a realistic stage-by-stage view at the outset and pursue interim relief where the matter is urgent.
Can you act for an NRI client in a property dispute?
Yes. We regularly act for NRIs and outstation clients through a Power of Attorney, so physical presence is not required for routine hearings. The client is updated after every effective date.
What is the limitation period for filing a recovery suit?
Under the Limitation Act 1963 a suit for recovery of money is generally to be filed within three years of the debt becoming due. Exceptions and acknowledgements can extend or reset this, so the facts are worth reviewing early.

Area of practice · Family

Personal matters. Thoughtful counsel.

Family matters carry personal consequences that extend beyond the immediate legal issue. We approach these matters with sensitivity, discretion, and attention to the people involved. Our focus is on helping clients understand their position, consider their options, and make informed decisions during difficult transitions.

Area of practice · Corporate

Legal perspective for business decisions.

Businesses need to understand how legal obligations affect their commercial choices. Our approach to corporate matters connects the legal position with the business context: the purpose of an arrangement, the responsibilities it creates, and the issues that may arise as circumstances change. The aim is practical advice that helps decision-makers understand both the immediate question and its wider implications.

Asked often

Where are company disputes heard in Chandigarh?
Petitions under the Companies Act 2013, including oppression and mismanagement, are heard by the National Company Law Tribunal at its Chandigarh Bench. Commercial disputes above the specified value go to the Commercial Courts.
Do you review contracts as well as litigate them?
Yes. Much of the work is advisory: reading an arrangement before it is signed, identifying the obligations it creates, and saying plainly what is likely to be argued about later.

Area of practice · Criminal

Careful preparation. Considered representation.

Criminal matters demand close attention to facts, procedure, and the rights of the individual. Our approach centres on understanding the circumstances, examining the available material, and identifying the legal questions that require attention. Advice and representation are shaped by the particular matter and its stage in the legal process.
